Bacolod, Negros Occidental – The global spotlight is officially turning to Negros Island. In a landmark moment for sustainable agriculture in the Philippines, the NISARD Foundation and the provincial government of Negros Occidental have formally signed an agreement with IFOAM – Organics International to host the 22nd Organic World Congress (OWC). The highly anticipated event will officially begin on November 23, 2027.

This historic signing, which took place on May 29, 2026, cements the decision made during the 2024 General Assembly in Taiwan.

A Global Stage for Local Growers

The Organic World Congress, held every three years since 1977, is the largest global gathering of the organic movement. Co-hosting this event aligns perfectly with NISARD’s two-decade mission to transform Negros into Southeast Asia’s organic food hub.

For NISARD President Edgardo Uychiat, the 2027 congress is more than just an international meeting—it is a direct economic catalyst for local farming communities.

• Throughout the five-day event, regional farmer organizations will be the primary suppliers of all food and beverages.

• The OWC will also be held in tandem with the island’s annual organic farmers’ festival, the longest-running event of its kind in the world.

• This dual-celebration ensures that grassroots producers receive international recognition for their hard work.

Empowering the Grassroots Movement

The official agreement was ratified by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, IFOAM Vice President Marco Schlüter, and NISARD President Edgardo Uychiat. Schlüter emphasized that bringing the congress to Negros Island will not only elevate the region internationally but will also create vital opportunities for local advocates while boosting consumer awareness regarding the benefits of organic agriculture.

As the November 23, 2027 kickoff approaches, NISARD and IFOAM will continue to outline the thematic and logistical milestones for the event.
